Mission Statement

Teaching Homes for Christ is a gathering of home school families for the purpose of support and encouragement, obtaining speakers, providing a library and offering activities for families and students alike. We intend:

  • To provide support to Christian parents who are or will be teaching their children at home.
  • To provide a lending resource library with support materials for parents and students containing books, audio tapes, and video tapes.
  • To provide information on current legal rights and relevant new legislation.
  • To provide opportunities for our children to interact with others who are being taught at home through planned educational and recreational activities.

We are an autonomous, all-volunteer organization, but we are affiliated with Illinois Christian Home Educators (ICHE) and ascribe to their general evangelical statement of faith.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible to be the infallible Word of God, the supreme and final authority for all faith and life (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
  • We believe that there is one God (Deut. 6:4), eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19).
  • We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1, John 20:28), His virgin birth (Matt. 1:23), His sinless life (Heb. 4:15), His miracles (Acts 2:22), His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood (1 Pet. 3:18, Heb. 9:22), His bodily resurrection (John 2:19-22), His ascension (Acts 1:9-11), His imminent bodily return in power and glory (Rev. 1:7, Rev. 22:20).
  • We believe that man was created in the image of God (Gen. 1:27) but fell into sin (Rom. 5:12, Rom. 3:23, ) and is therefore lost (Isaiah 59:2), and only those who put their faith in Jesus Christ alone can be saved (Acts 4:12, Rom. 6:23).
  • We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by God’s grace (Eph. 2:8-9) and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:12-13), Whose substitutionary death on the cross paid the penalty for man’s sin (1 Pet. 3:18, 1 John 4:10).
  • We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict men (John 16:7-11), indwell (1 Cor. 3:16), guide (John 16:13), instruct (John 14:26), and empower the believer for Godly living and service (2 Tim. 1:7).
  • We believe that all men by nature and choice are sinners (Rom. 3:23), but God sent His Son to save people (John 3:17). Therefore, all who trust in Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God’s presence (John 11:25-26), and those who refuse to trust Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God (John 3:18).

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers through our common faith in Jesus Christ as expressed by the essential beliefs in the 7 statements above. Other non-essential doctrinal differences should not hinder the unity of Christian home educators.
